Immigration

Yesterday we received some exciting news! USCIS (U.S. Citizen & Immigration Service) has accepted our application for me to get permanent residency. This does not mean I have been granted permanent residency or a green card at this stage, but simply that they have accepted the paperwork and payments to begin this process.

Having already received the paperwork back once to fix a payment problem, it was a great relief to know that they had accepted it the second time around. This means we should not have to lug that pile of papers to the post office to mail ever again. :D That makes me immensely happy.

So where to next in this process? Well, next step is getting fingerprinted, which I think will be in KC. They have to contact me (probably via mail) to inform me of the date and time on which the fingerprinting will occur.

From there, I believe the next and final step is just waiting to receive the green card. We are praying and trusting that God will bring our paperwork through this process with minimal delays and in the shortest time possible!

Broken

It's a Saturday morning, and it's my birthday. And I wake up so excited to jump out of bed, because it's the day that I will hopefully get the best birthday present ever: the news that our next child is on his/her way. I bound out of bed, so much anticipation in every step. My cycle is seven days late, and with every fiber of my being, I expect to see a positive result. I walk out, and I am crushed. Another month, another negative test. Infertility has won again. All I want to do is go back to bed, curl up, and forget. Forget what it's like to want children. Forget how much the negative tests hurt. Forget that infertility is a part of my life. I want to just stop this crazy rollercoaster ride of emotions and pretend like I don't care any more. But I can't. It does  hurt. I hate hoping and getting disappointed, over and over and over again. And then the questions come. "Do you want more children?" "When are you having another one?"

Joy Amidst Chaos

Some days it feels like my life is complete and utter chaos. At this very moment, on my couch there is a to-do list for the day, one coupon for something I'm not even going to buy, two remotes, my Bible, a devotional that is only half read for the day, more coupons I'm not going to use, a list for Thanksgiving, coupons I might use for Thanksgiving stuff, my glasses, a water bottle, and a discarded pacifier. (It sounds like a whole pile of  stuff,  but really, it's way better than it was before, I promise.) And then there's the things that are not physically on the couch, but are running through my mind - that calendar I need to contact Shutterfly account, moving truck to organize, things to pack, Bible study to read...and so the list could go on. It feels like there's one endless to do list that keeps spitting out of my printer and I can't keep up. But...there's beauty in the chaos.
